Joyful Journaling: Resting In His Margins
Autumn Adventures-Embodying Joy: A Heart Journal, Chapter 9 "Querencia"
Today's episode highlights the joy I felt reflecting on the last few years of high school, times of innocence, discovery, experiences that directed our passions, and the people there to experience it all with me. Today's chapter and location echoes the "querencia" of the years we explored forbidden places with unforgettable people. If you're ever out and about in Cayuga County, NY, somewhere between Auburn and parts beyond Owasco Lake, on the side not heading toward Moravia, maybe you'll discover "the end of the world" road too? My hope is that it hasn't been developed, demolished, and left free. The last time I saw it was 2000. A world has changed in between then and now...
In times that feel chaotic for due reason lately, take an uplifting story break. Take a journal break to recall the "querencia" of a season in your own life.
Today's research highlights the beauty of powerful writing assignments, the importance of documentation, and the power of warm, relived memories as we heal. The assignment this episode stems from was critical in finishing my M.S.Ed. program at Canisius College to become a teacher to young and adult writers for the past twenty-three years. It was captured in a journal I no longer have and, thankfully, a copy of the final draft I handed in for a grade from my portfolio.
You're invited into a meditative journal prompt to journal along to with the mindful, meditative sounds of Masood Taj's "Unconditional Love" track (short version-5 minutes), or you can choose to extend your jounrnaling experience by adding tracks from my accompanying Spotify playlist: tracks 13, 14, 15, or 16 (created just for this chapter). Three-percent of proceeds from this book go to the Life is Good Playmaker Project, helping a million children a day in the U.S., Haiti, and Ukraine, who are experiencing adverse and challenging circumstances. These children greatly benefit from optimism and hope found within trained adults who work with them to build resiliency.
